Feeding the hungry through the Cor Unum Meal Center

The Cor Unum Meal Center is a not-for-profit meal center located in South Lawrence. Cor Unum provides free, nutritious meals in a safe environment to families with children, the working poor, the homeless, and the lonely – anyone who is in need of food, regardless of race, color, creed, sex, or way of life.

Cor Unum addresses the vast unmet needs of the hungry in Lawrence. The center is a 5,600 square foot building constructed on a 27,359 square foot lot on Carver Street in Lawrence. The land, owned by St. Patrick Parish, was previously used as an overflow parking lot.

The Cor Unum Meal Center feeds hundreds of people at every meal. The center has a small core staff and relies upon a large volunteer base for the provision of all of its services

The Cor Unum Meal Center offers:

• A facility large enough to feed hundreds of people at each meal
• A space with a striking architectural design, in the style of a beautiful restaurant or club
•  Free meals served to guests at round tables by volunteer wait staff
•  A varied menu of nutritious, well-balanced meals prepared and served on site 365 days a year, up to three meals a day
• A place for guests to socialize in a warm, friendly, accepting atmosphere
• The safety of a dry center, with the provision of take-home food for all who are not able to enter the center due to intoxication
• The provision of space for Saint Patrick’s food pantry, in order to enhance the distribution of nonperishable food to all who are in need
• A center in which guests, volunteers, and members of the community could grow as a family
• The offering of the very best to those who have the least

The Cor Unum Meal Center very powerfully responds to the urgent need to feed the hungry in Lawrence, lovingly welcoming all people, providing nourishment for the bodies and souls of all who are in need.
